SUNDAY SERVICE
|
This week’s Braver Angels lesson is titled, “Depolarizing Within.” It provides a critical foundation for the healing work we need to do within ourselves and within this community if we truly hope to be a model for healing and change in the wider world. It teaches us to move from demonizing those who we believe hold positions counter to ours to becoming open to seeing our own blind spots and creating opportunities to strengthen our collective approaches to solving the seemingly intractable problems in the world that we all want to solve.

10/27 Lesson 3-Families and Politics
If you want to join us, please schedule time to review each course ahead of its scheduled Sunday. Rev. Matt is also willing to schedule and lead midweek, in-person sessions for anyone that would feel more comfortable approaching the content in this way. If you are not comfortable or able to take an online course, send a note to [email protected].
These courses provide a foundation which we can tap into for additional opportunities to practice and strengthen our skills in the future. As we embark on this journey together, you are invited to review the rest of the Braver Angels website and begin to consider what we might like to do together as a next step once we develop these foundational skills together.
These skills are vitally needed to help heal the polarized world we find ourselves living in today. We hope you will join us on this journey!
The Adult Enrichment committee is excited to announce LCUUC Game Nights! on the following Friday nights this fall in the church social hall:
Friday 10/25 @ 6-8pm
Friday 11/15 @ 6-8pm
Friday 12/20 @ 6-8pm
LCUUC Game Nights will be an opportunity to enjoy casual fun & fellowship on a monthly basis.
How it will work:
We will have a variety of board games or decks of cards available for use. People can start up various games at tables and you can join in on what appeals to you that evening. (If you own a favorite game, please bring it along and teach others the game) Bring a favorite snack to share with everyone if you are able or willing (think snack...not meal) This is an ADULTS only event, so please get a sitter if you want a night out (if families have interest in a GAME NIGHT, we can coordinate that with the Family Ministry committee as a separate event) Water will be available, otherwise Bring Your Own Beverages (alcohol is allowed as this is an ADULT's only event) This event has no RSVP...simply show up during the 6-8pm time to join in the fun Co-facilitators are Chris Rollins (Adult Enrichment Committee Co-Chair) & Megan Fedders. Please contact Chris at chris email or cell 262-269-9787 with any suggestions or questions

We are completing our 24th year as a participant in Waukesha County's "Adopt A Highway" program, in which organizations partner with the County to clean up County highway roadsides 3 times a year. Our section is Highway E north from Highway K to where the road turns west. Here is a picture from our first cleanup in 2001 when we were renting the Presbyterian church in Wales: Our section of highway then was east of Hartland, where we met at "Slugger's Bar".
Please join in on Saturday October 26 (weather permitting, of course!). Meet at the church front door at 9:30 am. We supply the bags, yellow-green vests (compliments of the County), and bottled water.
If you have never done this, give it a try! Wear good walking shoes and gloves. Takes about 1-1/2 hours and is a nice sociable walk, in addition to doing something to help our environment and publicize our church. Everybody is welcome. Per Waukesha County rules, children participating must be at least 11 years old or in 6th grade.
Contact Gerry Flakas [email protected] or 262-646-2703 if any questions.

MONTHLY NATURE MEDITATION
Saturday, October 19th at 9:00am
Sponsored by the Kintsugi Sangha
Oconomowoc River Conservancy
(MAP)
Everyone is invited! Come enjoy some quiet time at one of our local parks sponsored by the Kintsugi Sangha. Here's where to find the upcoming nature meditations:
What to expect: The meditations will happen rain or shine, so dress for the weather (and the bugs). We will start at 9:00 AM with a short reading, then spend about 25 minutes quietly experiencing the environment by walking or finding a space to sit and observe the sounds, smells, sights and feel of the space. We'll gather again to share the experience and another short reading before returning to our individual routines. (No prior meditation experience is required.)
Since this is a meditative experience, we ask that you do not bring things that may be distracting to yourself or others (e.g. pets) and that you silence communication devices before the meditation starts.
For those who like to plan ahead, our outing in November will be at Pewaukee Simmons Woods Park.
Questions, or for more information contact Tracy at [email protected].

The spiritual practice of welcome is a very important one to the LCUUC faith community. We strive to become more welcoming and inclusive of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. The continuing commitment to bringing attention to and taking action in regards to social justice issues is our work.
